Milton Tootoosis

Milton was raised on the Poundmaker Indian Reserve west of the Battleford’s in his ancestral territory of the sipi iyiniwak (The River People) in what is now a part of Treaty Six Territory in the Province of Saskatchewan (since 1905).

Tootoosis joined the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority (SREDA) team in the fall of 2021 to help develop and advance strategies in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission final report and the Call to Action #92.

Milton has built his fourty-year career as a sports director, HRM practitioner, a community economic developer, including serving as Trustee for his Nation and as an elected Headman from 2016 to 2021. He is a graduate of the First Nations University of Canada, an ongoing student of the nêhiyaw world view, Nation Building (the Harvard Project principles) research, and he is a certified Professional Aboriginal Economic Developer by the Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers (CANDO). He is also a facilitator for the Indigenous Leadership Development Institute Inc. (ILDII).

He serves as Co-founder and Chair of the Saskatchewan Indigenous Economic Development Network (SIEDN) and is a Director for the Indigenous Leadership Development Institute Inc. (ILDII), founders of the World Indigenous Business Forum (WIBF). He is a connector and the founder of several initiatives.  He sits on several boards and is owner of MGT Consulting.

Debbie Burka

Debbie Burka, former Chief of Staff of the Grand Chief’s Office at the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs. Debbie is a human resources specialist who worked as the Human Resources Liaison for Peguis First Nation for seven years prior to joining AMC in 2007. She has a wealth of experience working with First Nation communities and all their levels of government. She is currently on the board of the Apprenticeship and Trades Qualification Board for the Province of Manitoba. Debbie is a member of Peguis First Nation. Debbie is currently working as a consultant.

Ivan Makil

Ivan Makil was elected to three consecutive terms as President of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SPRMIC). Under his leadership, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community became a nationally recognized model for successful business enterprises, land use planning and overall economic development that is creative, diversified, and culturally sensitive.Makil has played a highly influential leadership role in Indigenous communities, by advancing economic linkages, governance practices, and youth leadership programs. Through his many initiatives, Makil strives to bring Indigenous peoples to the forefront, such that, he played an active role in establishing a meeting between tribal leaders and the president of the United States and cabinet members (a feat that has not happened since the 1800’s!) Makil has been highly recognized for his numerous leadership initiatives, as he was selected as “One of the 100 Most Influential in Arizona” by The Business Journal.

Irene Linklater

Is a member of the Little Grand Rapids First Nation Manitoba by family and Couchiching First Nation Ontario by marriage, and fluent in the Anishinaabe language. Lawyer, member of the Manitoba Bar Association with a focus on Indigenous Law, Aboriginal and Treaty rights. Called to the Ontario Bar 1991 and Manitoba Bar 2000. Fourteen year career as former Executive Director/General Counsel with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Secretariat Inc. included being first Director of Research & Policy and a Manager of Research on the self-government Framework Agreement Initiative. Former visiting professor at the Universities of Ottawa and Saskatchewan Law Schools, part-time instructor at Red River College and University of Winnipeg.

Dennis Meeches

Former Chief of Long Plain First Nation and former member of various boards including Arrowhead Development Corporation and Treaty 1 Development Corporation. President of Tribal Council Investment Group and Director of Aboriginal Health Care at Four Rivers Clinic.

The Indigenous Leadership Development Institute Inc. is a non-profit organization established to build leadership capacity in Indigenous people. We are run by Indigenous people and directed by a volunteer board reflecting the diversity of the Indigenous community. This board identifies specific training required to produce able and accomplished Indigenous leaders.
